So is his style of reporting the news.
Cronkite graced the air waves as news anchor at CBS for nearly 20 years. During his tenure he was proclaimed “The most trusted man in America”. No fake news. No spin. Just the news.
I remember him most for his reporting on the assassination of President Kennedy.
Today there isn’t much news “reporting” without panel discussions and commentary. Even when a single news reporter presents the news, it is rarely left to the viewer to reach his own conclusions. The news has become more about shaping the opinions of the viewer rather than reporting the news.
Cronkite obviously had opinions about world and national affairs. I just don’t recall ever hearing him share them during a news broadcast. Reporting the news, in those days, was a sacred trust. America relied on the truth and accuracy of the reporting, and got the news once a day with the evening news.
Now, the “news” is reported, misreported, maligned and distorted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Viewers have to be very discerning to extract the “news”.
And that’s the way it is.
