The clowns are back.

 

No elephants, no lions and no high wire acts.  Just the clowns.

The great three ring circus has undergone something of a transformation.  Now it takes place in social media, and the only entertainment is the disingenuous politicians.

Yes, the next election cycle has begun.

Campaigns are designed around “giving people what they want”.  Actually, it boils down to “telling the people what they want to hear”.  We are left to wonder where these candidates have been during their most recent “service” to the people.  What have they DONE on the issues they are now so passionate about?  As they now posture to “LEAD” on important issues, we should pause and ask “Where have you been, and what have you been doing?”

It isn’t surprising that so many voters have become discouraged and disillusioned.  Politicians in whom they placed their trust have fallen prey to political expediency.  Those seeking re-election and/or higher office are suddenly demonstrating their deep concern for issues they on which they have done little or nothing.

I long for leaders who spend their political capital to effect positive change rather than build huge campaign war chests.

What was said by (or about) P.T. Barnum can easily be said about the political circus now underway…

“There’s a sucker born every minute.”
