How ironic that freedom of speech is going to provide the single shot that may just remove the Democratic stranglehold on education.
Ann Coulter’s recent run in with Berkley and the California University system shows just how far the Democrats have come and how far their pendulum has swung. When the ACLU comes out in favor of Ann Coulter’s rights, we’ve achieved victory. Some may call it a small victory but it is HUGE. Here’s why.
The ACLU, famous for protecting the rights of everyone has indeed lived up to their reputation and taken on this cause, issuing statements in support of a conservative’s right to speak. Unfortunately, those who are hell bent on molding the country into a stronghold of liberalism that controls the majority of the media markets don’t appear to understand.
But here’s the truth. They DO understand and continue to spew the politically correct positions as they see them and insist that if you don’t agree with them, there’s something wrong with YOU!
The last election should have sent the message loud and clear that there’s nothing wrong with many of us. We just don’t’ agree with your politically correct positions. That is not to say that you can’t have your positions, we just don’t have to agree that they are right for us. The ACLU agrees with us! We can not only hold those positions, but we can talk about them as well.
That’s what America is all about. They can talk about immigrants and how we are all different. We all come from different backgrounds and have different cultures. What has always made us great is that by recognizing and agreeing that we all have the right to be who we are is a freedom we are not willing to give up. And our right to talk about it is protected.
Freedom of speech has had the spotlight because of the Ann Coulter issue. Could this same spotlight shine on the education policies that have also taken such a turn to the left that must come back to some sense of normalcy? Is it possible that the ACLU could also support equally conservative education views as well as the ultra-liberal views that seem to have permeated our university systems down to our Kindergartens?
Education is where it all starts. We are doing a disservice to our children and our nation to keep pumping out people who are spoon fed only one side of any issue. It could not have been exposed any better than at what some consider the bastion of Liberal education, Berkley. We will never learn to make good choices based on only half of the information. Could that be why we have been falling behind?
Universities that do not allow freedom of speech should be placing their funding in jeopardy. We may all owe Berkley a debt of gratitude. They have provided a turning point that just might right education in this great country. Do we want to squander an opportunity tailor made for change or seize the moment?
