I have never understood…
… how (or why) people could hate other people because of their skin color.
Love doesn’t understand it either. I thank God regularly that He has given me a loving heart. I can’t imagine what it would be like to go through life being filled with hate. A friend of mine wrote this commentary on facebook:
I can’t LIE about what is on my mind!!! I got pulled over by the POLICE the other night while driving to work. I don’t know how other people feel when they are …pulled over by the cops but I was a little nervous even though I knew that I was not doing anything wrong. So when I saw the flashing lights in my rear view mirror, I drove slowly to the busiest parking lot (which was a grocery store lot rather than pulling aside the road or pulling into a smaller place of business as it was night time and most businesses were closed). I knew that a busier parking lot would have: store cameras in the parking lot; people getting in and out of their cars; and the biggest and brightest night light that a person could find to park under. The reason for finding these things was because I didn’t want any mistakes to happen. This all saddens me, because at 41 years old I am still asking myself WHY, because I know that I am a nice teddy bear type of a person, that doesn’t mind speaking up for what is right because it is right and that I care for all people. Some people have a problem with skin color; I don’t. I can understand that “All Lives Matter” but I believe that all us black people are trying to say is that “Black Lives Matter Too”! I don’t believe in pulling the race card. My wife is a beautiful white woman and my three daughters are black and white; and I am not ashamed of it. In our family we teach our babies to not judge someone by their skin color but by the content of their character; we teach them to love and not hate others; we teach them to educate when people see that they are different because in South Dakota(where my wife is from) they are considered Black but in North Carolina(where I am from) they are considered White. There is a spirit in our country and in the media, that is trying to divide and come against us as a “People”. Even though I have seen stores closed and make us leave in the middle of the day because of the color of my family’s skin; and people not want to sit beside us or serve us in restaurants; and police pull guns on me in routine traffic stops; and experience being pulled over by police 8 times within a matter of 20 minutes just to get a rise out of me; I WILL not get discouraged, I WILL not hold my head down but rather look to God. Whether we experience injustice or not, we as a people have to humble ourselves and put pride aside and turn to Jesus(God) for an answer. Whether we agree with if there is a problem or not we need to pull together; fight for righteousness, TOGETHER. Because on the one side people are yelling there is a BIG problem and on the other side some may consider it whining and an exaggeration but I know, as a black man what I have experienced. But like I did with the police officer the other night: I will remain respectful and take the time to ask questions of what could be done to better the relationship between police and black people, for the sake of my family, friends and this world that we all live in. Going forward I WILL continue: to educate all people, encourage all people, refuse to get bitter but better, walk in peace with all people, HOPE, LOVE; not because of what I see and sometimes feel but because of who I know(the Lord).
Thank you for sharing this Sam! I pray that your attitude is contagious, and infects our nation. The love of God is our hope and the solution to our nation’s problems.
One heart at a time!
