Senate Republicans can only loose two votes in passing the health care bill.
This morning, a sixth Republican Senator announced opposition.
Voters believed all the promises to “Repeal and Replace”. I personally objected, because it sounded to me like a set up. Why, if government controlled health care was so bad, do we need to REPLACE it? Unfortunately, Republican leaders seem to be intent on KEEPING their promise.. at least half of it. They are working hard to replace it (to some degree), but doing little or nothing to repeal it.
At the end of the day, most Republicans in the Senate still believe that government has to be in control of health care, with a variety of entitlements and subsidies. What we are likely to end up with is a Republican version of Obamacare. Better in some ways, but still bad in the long run.
Here are some statements from Conservative Senators regarding this plan.
Senator Mike Lee:
“It cuts taxes. It bails out insurance companies. It props up Obamacare through the next election. It lays out plans to slow Medicaid spending beginning in 2025, but that probably won’t happen. And it leaves in place the ham-fisted federal regulations that have driven up family health insurance premiums by 140 percent since Obamacare was implemented.”
Senator Ted Cruz:
“As currently drafted, this bill draft does not do nearly enough to lower premiums. That should be the central issue for Republicans – repealing Obamacare and making healthcare more affordable”
Senator Rand Paul:
“I want the bill to look more like a repeal bill. I promised people I was going to repeal it; I didn’t promise people that I was going to replace it with a federal program of bailing out insurance companies”
Senator Ron Johnson:
“Throwing more money at insurers won’t fix the lack of consumer-driven competition, combined with government mandates that artificially drive up the cost of care and insurance.”
Good luck America.

Gordon, if you had a magic wand and could write a health care plan for America yourself, whether public or private or some mixture, what would it be? How would it be paid for?
My plan would be more about process than specific substance. There are much brighter minds than mine that have a grasp on the problems and solutions. Gathering the thoughts from the left, right and middle of the political spectrum has to be the starting point. My thoughts are replete with conservative bias. The truth is, that we need EVERYONE at the table to engage the issue. http://www.rightsidesd.com/?p=30495
