A military motorcycle club, the Green Knights, will provide an escort convoy—Dakota Thunder Run—from Ellsworth Air Force Base to the Sturgis Rally on Tuesday, August 8—all to honor a hundred-year-old US Army Air Force veteran, Stan Lieberman of Rapid City, who stood-and-fought at Pearl Harbor when enemy bombers attacked on December 7, 1941.
On arrival at 2 pm, the City of Sturgis will begin its Military Appreciation Day reception to honor Lieberman at the VIP Hospitality Center at 1544 Lazelle Street, followed by a USAF B-1 close flyover at 3 pm.
After Pearl Harbor, Lieberman was transferred to South Dakota “as aerial photography instructor for B-17 crews here at Rapid City Army Air Base for the rest of the war,” reported a retired B-1B Lancer Weapon Systems Officer at EAFB.
