People remember the golden age of radio. Listening used the imagination to fill in anything visual. Books the same. The mind was stimulated and exercised.
The same can actually happen in reverse. Try watching your television without the sound on. Most people will know what’s going on. Football is football. News shows actually have feeds streaming across the bottom of the screen.
The steady stream of commentary by broadcasters robs viewers of their own thoughts and interpretations and values. Simply put, you are told how to think and what to think, without any opportunity to squeeze-in a personal thought.
Sound is perfect for broadcasting companies trying to impose politically correct indoctrination on an unwitting public. George Orwell knew instinctively how this worked. There’s a dumbing down that is never suspected or assessed. Freedom is lost.
People already know the remedy when it comes to commercials. They turn off the sound to stop the obnoxious huckstering. We can still choose to glance at any compelling scenery and interesting art displays—but know that our attention isn’t trapped.
Without sound, your mind will start to notice things and think thoughts that YOU choose, not some editor in a distant urban center. Freedom means taking back control of your own mind and values.
