Why?

With 59 people dead and over 500 wounded, the search for motive begins.  Why would a 60 year old man take bundles of weapons to a hotel room overlooking a sea of humanity with the intent to kill?

The investigation into motive will almost certainly reveal that this man was or had been taking some kind of prescribed drug for depression or mental/emotional imbalance.  These drugs are prescribed to large numbers of people in America.  While Leftists will clamor for more stringent gun control, they will overlook what is likely the real culprit… prescription drugs.

The “motive” of this, and other shooters may not be motive at all.  It is very likely a symptom rather than a motive.

First reports indicate that the guns used were illegal.  That would be case in point proof that this debate should not be about gun control.  If the guns were already “controlled” and illegal, it is a clear demonstration that more gun control laws would fail.  The reason for gun control failure is obvious to the rational mind; Criminals will still find and use illegal weapons for crime and carnage.  Taking guns from law abiding citizens only leaves them defenseless, and makes it easier for criminals to be successful.

As to the motive of these deranged killers, we should be looking at what causes them to “snap”.  The prescription drugs can create a downward spiral that transforms the mind of a person.

We would do well to remember that drugs and alcohol are spiritual Novocain.  The farther we run from God, the more “remedies” we will find in bottles, needles and pills.  As we drift into these “solutions”, we will discover that they actually create more problems.

This shooter may well have been a victim rather than an ogre.  That probably won’t get a lot of press.  It doesn’t excuse the murder of innocent people, but if we would take an honest look, it would likely explain the “motive”.
