President Trump has done billions of dollars worth of deals.
His biggest deal, however, will be getting the US Senate to do ANYTHING meaningful!
Two of the big deals, Obamacare repeal and tax reform have yet to come together. The challenge of getting 52 “Republican” Senators to agree on anything has proven to be a difficult objective. There may be a “deal” resulting, but it won’t likely be what America really needs.
The most formidable obstacle isn’t in the details of tax reform or repeal of Obamacare. The way the Senate does business is the real problem.
There is a solution. It just isn’t a solution the Senate will seriously consider. One issue, one change in one bill. In other words, deal with one problem at a time. Corporate tax rate? One bill, debate it and vote it up or down. Repeal Obamacare, yes or no? I know this is an over simplification, but the practice of packaging multiple issues under the cover of one bill has resulted in volumes of bad legislation. The practice of bargaining by adding special spending or preference in order to ‘buy’ votes had made the US Senate a dysfunctional body.
Keeping it simple would go a long way toward helping Donald Trump close his biggest deal ever!
