Senator DeMint will not run for President in 2012

By Ed Randazzo

Conservative and Tea Party favorite Jim DeMint has ruled out a run for president in 2012, choosing instead to focus on helping to elect more conservatives to the Senate next November, according to sources close to the South Carolina senator.

“He’s said all along that he isn’t running for President and his role in the primary is to encourage the candidates to embrace conservative principles,” said Matt Hoskins, spokesman for the Senate Conservatives Fund, DeMint’s political action committee.

“At the end of the day he believes he can do more to change America by continuing to change the U.S. Senate,” said a source familiar with DeMint’s thinking.

I respect Senator DeMint’s decision but am truly saddened by it. It is precisely a man of his character and courage that is needed in the White House.  My hope is that he will change his mind.

He’s one of my favorites, too. Although, I think he could do more to change America as Senate Majority Leader.

I think I will begin praying for a deadlocked convention, with Sen DeMint emerging as the draft candidate!
