The Democrats, of course!
NOT SO FAST!!!!
Republicans are all over the media, blaming Democrats for the huge spending and deficit in the latest budget deal. Their spin is, “we had to accept the spending in order to fund the military”.
Sorry… I’m not buying that line.
Republicans have clear majorities in the House and Senate. At the very least, they could have brought forward a clean bill to do nothing more than fund the military. If I am not mistaken, that is exactly what the House did. Senate majority leader, McConnell, put it in the garbage.
A reasonable question might be, “Why wouldn’t/didn’t McConnell allow a vote on a CLEAN bill to fund the military?” Maybe the Democrat could have prevented it from passing. If they had, they would have been clearly on the record as opposing military funding. That, in itself could have been helpful to voters making decisions in upcoming elections. So, why didn’t McConnell call for a vote on such a bill?
It is difficult to understand how (or why) Republicans continue to be held hostage by Democrats, even when Republicans hold majorities in both houses of Congress. Republicans have the opportunity to call for up or down votes on single issue bills. They could do this on any number of important issues.
BUT THEY DON’T!
Could it be that in exposing the Democrats for who/what they are would also blow the cover of many ‘Republicans’ who are really in lock-step with Democrats on many issues? Rand Paul was right (when he is right, he is REALLY right) when he said this:
“When Democrats are in power, Republicans appear to be the Conservative Party. But when Republicans are in power, it seems there is no Conservative Party. The hypocrisy hangs in the air and chokes anyone with a sense of decency and intellectual honesty.”
There isn’t much left to be said.
Republicans failed. Again.
