Taking credit for forging a coalition and saving “countless lives”, President Obama sought to answer the numerous questions swirling about regarding the military action against Libya. He failed to answer what success and completion of this “kinetic military action” will be.
He said that the UN resolution mandated a no-fly zone and that all necessary measures be taken to protect the Libyan people. I fail to see how the attack and destruction of military assets of the Libyan government in advance of the rebel forces, which are largely unknown and unpredictable, will “protect the Libyan people”.
The coalition, soon to be led by NATO which is merely an extension of US forces, is simply facilitating regime change in Libya which is not mandated by the UN Security Council Resolution.
The President also said that he consulted with the “bi-partisan leadership of Congress” prior to the action against Libya. Could we have some names, Mr. President?
Even if such “consultation” actually occured, where is the Congressional authorization to commit US troops and resources in an act of war when there is no threat to the security or interests of the US? The authorization came from the United Nations and from President Obama. They together have placed US troops in harms way to support a faction of a civil war in a tribal society. We know little or nothing about the insurgents in Libya. Who are their leaders? What is their intent?
Mr. President, what is the end game for us in Libya?
If you missed the President’s ad for his self-justification, you really didn’t miss anything worth seeing.
Yes, Obama is all about keeping the oil flowing. hahahahahaha…
You really don’t know the end game? Stabilize the region so we can keep the oil flowing.
for Europe and China. Quite possibly true. But I suspect Obama’s personal commitment has political roots as well as is his vision of a new world order.
