Neither is Hell.
I created something of a firestorm with the article about a brilliant, renowned physicist ‘going to hell’. Those who may have read the article with a degree of open-mindedness saw the hope presented, that EVERYONE has the opportunity to make a choice for Christ until the last moment of their life. Once again, my hope for this atheist is that he saw and accepted the truth in the last moments of his life.
As the media celebrated the life of this remarkable man, we were reminded of his genius. He was, indeed, a man who overcame tremendous obstacles and had an amazing intellect. For all of that, he is deserving of respect and honor. That does not, however, mean we should accept his flawed conclusion that “Heaven is a fairy story for people afraid of the dark” any more than if he had concluded the earth to be flat.
Many who join in the rejection of Christ were quick to accuse me of “judging”. Obviously, it is God who will be the judge. He has given us clear direction about the criteria with which He will judge. In the 3rd book of the Gospel of John, Jesus spoke of this judgment…
“And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.”
I would not wish Hell on my worst enemy. Instead, I would warn them that it is a place of eternal, unspeakable torment. I would hasten to tell them there is a better way to spend eternity.
Hell is real. Very real.
Heaven is real. Gloriously real.
You (and only you) can choose your eternal destiny in the life after this present life. Denying/rejecting Jesus, the only begotten Son of God, purchases your ticket to Hell. It’s a place from which there is no return. Accepting Jesus as your personal Savior forgives you of all your sin and provides the assurance of eternity in Heaven.
My own imperfections easily convince me that I need a Savoir. I am thankful I have one. Jesus has redeemed me with His own blood, shed for the forgiveness of sin (mine, and the sin of the whole of mankind). I pray that you make a personal decision to give your life to Christ. Those who insist that they have no sin and choose to reject Jesus will spend eternity in torment. That isn’t my judgment of anyone. That is the judgment of God. He has proclaimed it.
It is simply the truth.
