President Obama’s address to the nation Monday night doesn’t appear to have made voters more confident about his handling of the situation in Libya, nor has it made them feel more strongly that Libya is important to U.S. national security.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 43% of Likely U.S. Voters rate the Obama administration’s response to the Libya situation as good or excellent, marking little change from two previous surveys. Thirty percent (30%) give the administration poor marks, up from 21% earlier this month.
Why?
Because Obama is deceiving us. He runs for cover to the UN Security Council resolution that mandates the establishment of a no-fly zone and the protection of the Libyan people. However, that is not the mission that is being executed.
We are not protecting the people of Libya by flying A-10 warplanes, C-130 gunships and B-1B bombers. We have chosen to affect regime change in Libya, plain and simple, and are pursuing the goal of removing a madman from power.
If we were participating in military action to protect the people of Libya, we would be enforcing a cease fire between the two factions, not eliminating one party’s ability to fight.
Mr. President, you haven’t made the people more confident in your handling of this situation because you are not telling the truth. Your actions do not match your words. Further, you have now begun a military action in Libya that is likely to become a quagmire without a discernible end.
