THIS time, the Supreme Court got it right.
They ruled 7-2 that the baker who refused to make a special cake for a same sex couple was within his Constitutional right.
The two men who brought the suit against the baker argued that he was obligated to create the cake they wanted for their “wedding”. The baker is a Christian man who believed that homosexuality is sin, and that marriage was created by God for the union of one man with one woman. In short, it violated his conscience to create a special cake for these two men. The baker offered to sell them anything in his shop, but told them he could not create a special cake celebrating something he could not endorse. He was not denying them their right to choose a homosexual relationship. He was just saying it conflicted with his faith and he could not participate or affirm their choice.
That was not good enough for these two men. They chose to force the baker to create their special cake by filing a lawsuit against him. Thankfully, at the end of the day, that effort failed. This was not just a case about allowing these men the right to pursue their sinful lifestyle, but to compel others who think it is wrong to embrace and validate it. This baker wasn’t preventing these men from living the way they chose to live, he was simply saying, “I can’t participate or agree with your choice”.
These two men have not been harmed. Unfortunately, the baker has suffered for his convictions. Finally, he has won the case and re-established his Constitutional right. The message should be simple and understandable. If you choose to live in a way that others can not agree with…
Bake your own cake!
