“If you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen”.
President Harry Truman is credited with that quote. President Trump should be credited with demonstrating what it means and how it works.
In the face of what may be the most vicious and relentless attacks in history, Trump hasn’t blinked. He continues, day by day, getting things done that are “making America great again”. While Leftists and even members of his own party were screaming about Trump setting the stage for a nuclear war, he persisted. Now, it looks like there may be some very real progress with North Korea. As the summit with North Korea is about to take place, the same people are screaming that Trump is going to create a trade war by imposing tariffs on steel and aluminum. Just watch… this too will end well.
All of this reminds me of the Republican debate during the Presidential primary. All candidates were asked if they would support the eventual nominee, should it not be them. One by one, all of the candidates dutifully agreed that they would… except one. Donald Trump stood alone on the stage as the single candidate who wouldn’t make that absolute commitment. Many in the audience booed him. He didn’t flinch. All of the other candidates did the politically expedient thing, even though they proved later that their hearts were not in it. That exercise demonstrated Trump’s willingness to take the heat and remain true to his convictions.
During his 500+ days in the Oval office, he has further shown his internal strength in the face of potentially negative political consequences. He is a tough negotiator, and he is intent on doing what is good for America regardless of the political result. It is one reason his supporters love him, and put him in the White House to begin with.
What the naysayers do not yet comprehend, is that Trump may be the best poker player to ever grace the White House. His isn’t easily intimidated. He stakes out a strong position, and negotiates from a position of strength. He will walk away from a bad deal rather than being pressured to make a deal for the sake of making a deal.
America is better off today, only 500 days into this administration, that she has been for decades.
That is a fact.
