Above the law?
They wish. That is what they appear to think. Time will tell.
The political world is all aflutter about the just released inspector general’s report. It should be. Partisans on the left and the right are trying to make excuses or accusations. Many of them miss (unintentionally or purposely) the real issue. It isn’t about WHO, or which political party benefited or was damaged. The issue is about WHAT the FBI and DOJ did or did not do.
I don’t much care if their actions hurt Hillary or Trump, or helped one or the other. I DO CARE about the unbiased execution of their respective responsibilities.
The FBI and DOJ simply can not be used as a weapon against political opposition, regardless of party. In order for the great American system of justice to work, both of these agencies must be above reproach. That is why accountability to Congress is so important. They must NEVER be above accountability.
If reports of Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein are true, he should immediately be fired or impeached. If it were not bad enough that he has systematically refused to provide requested documents to Congressional oversight, threats and intimidation directed at Congressmen and their staff by Rosenstein should be sufficient to immediately remove him from office. It is the kind of behavior that should never be tolerated at any level of government or law enforcement, but particularity at the DOJ or FBI.
Just the first reports of the IG’s report include enough evidence to justify the lack of trust most Americans have for the DOJ and FBI. THAT is monumental. This is a huge mess that Congress must clean up. People should be fired and/or going to jail.
That might restore order and faith in the DOJ and FBI.
