The Truth Will Set Us Free
“When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal,… that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed,…” These are the opening statements of the Declaration of Independence.
“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.” The Preamble to the Constitution of the United States.
A person can read both the Declaration of Independence AND the Constitution of the United States in about 30 minutes or so; something we should probably do from time to time in order to really comprehend the significance of the foundation of our nation. I believe our nation is at a crossroads, a critical intersection, where “We the People” are faced with the choice of rising up to defend the foundational principles of our nation or to stand idly by and continue to see them maligned, distorted, abused, and possibly eradicated by those who seemly have lost (or possibly never possessed) the voice of our visionary forefathers that resonates in us through the words of the foundational documents and actions upon which this nation should be anchored.
As we stand up for the potential preservation of our nation, it is important that we not be deceived into only evaluating “personalities”, and being primarily motivated by “emotional issues”, while overlooking the overt and the underlying “purposes” of the different individuals and groups that are making all the noise on all the sides of all the issues before us as a nation. Following is an exhortation that we must rely on in these times:
“First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” 1 Timothy 2:1-4 (NASB)
