Watching a fight-to-the-death was great sport in ancient Rome.

It is hard to imagine the depravity of a  “civilization” that would find that entertaining.

Unfortunately, you don’t have to use your imagination much.  All you have to do is listen/watch to the latest “blood sport” event on your favorite news channel.  The art of political character assassination has become a national past time.

The latest is the confirmation hearings for Judge Kavanaugh.  An eleventh hour accusation alleges sexual impropriety of a then-17 year old Kavanaugh.  The allegation lacks credibility on several fronts.  Perhaps the lowest of the low is that the attack was launched at the eleventh hour, in an obvious attempt to do the most harm. Rabid Leftists are salivating.

This kind of vile attack doesn’t just come from the left.  Sad to say, this new blood sport know no political bounds.  I won’t recount them, but they come daily, from every venue and political angle.  The intent is clear.  Kill your adversary.  Mortally wound those with whom you disagree.  In itself, that would be bad enough.  Equally as bad is the fact that the American “civilization” enjoys it, participates in it and promotes it.

I have come to a place where I am completely disgusted with politics… from the left to the right.

I long for the day when we have civil discussions about issues… The day when personal attacks and character assassination is no longer in vogue.

The fascination with gladiator events in ancient Rome preceded its demise.  Moral decline was its ultimate downfall.  My prayer is that this new American blood sport which we call politics does not lead our nation to the same end.
