Who you vote for tells a lot about who you really are.

In South Dakota, votes for President might be more important information than in other places.  South Dakota, you see, is a place where “Conservative” still helps elect a candidate.  So much so, that most candidates in both parties lay claim to the title.  Who a candidate supported for President reveals a lot about the foundational principles with which they would govern if elected.

One example that comes to mind is former Senator Larry Pressler.  Twice, he voted for Barack Obama for President, but was considered by many as “Conservative”.  That transcends all forms of reason.

In a very short time, South Dakota will be choosing a Governor.  The choice will be Kristi Noem or Billy Sutton.  One of them will be our next Governor.

Noem, is the Republican.  Some of her votes and the people she has chosen to surround herself with have created unhappiness in Conservative circles.  Her votes for President, while secret, were undoubtedly for Republican candidates.

Sutton is the Democrat.  He is well liked by most who know him, and has a record in the State Legislature that appears more Conservative than many Republicans.  What is most telling about his deeply held political positions is who he has voted for.  My guess is that he twice voted for Barack Obama and voted for Hillary Clinton over Trump (if I am wrong, please let me know right away, Billy).  It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to do the math on that equation.

You might not like your choice, but choose wisely South Dakota.
