I woke up (very early) today with that question on my mind.

For me, the answer is pretty simple.  You have to decide for yourself.

My decision, as a follower of Christ I can’t do it.  Not because I am perfect.  Not because I am better than anyone who doesn’t share my belief.  My decision is based on my belief that the Bible is true and God wants me to live in a way that glorifies Him.  Please don’t bother to remind me of my (many) failures in that effort.  My duty as a Christian isn’t to be perfect.  It is to follow the one who is, as best I am able.

As I examine the question for myself, I have to ask a few questions:

Would Jesus perform an abortion?  Would he support the practice of killing unborn children in any way?

What does God say about “alternative” lifestyles?  Doesn’t he call them an abomination?

The questions regarding morality are the fundamentals of the faith.  How can I possibly set aside the moral dictates from God when I enter the voting booth.  Some will argue that morality has no place in politics.  Looking at the political world today, you would have to conclude that its the view of a large number of people.  Regardless, I can’t do it.  My Bible follows me into the voting booth.

I would also suggest that the over 50 million Americans who claim to be Christians and DO NOT vote are failing the God they claim to serve.

There have been times I have been unable to vote for an individual Republican.  Still, the Republican platform is one that fits my moral convictions.  The Democrat platform, policies and practices are a different beast altogether.

So, how about a “pro-life” Democrat.  Sorry, I don’t know of any “pro-life” Democrats who did not vote for Hillary and Obama.  That, in and of itself disqualifies them (or anyone else) from being a “moral” voter.  If you claim to be a Christian and support candidates that promote immoral policies, your vote betrays you.

So, can you be a Christian and vote for a Democrat?

I can not.
