Rich liberal politicians of both parties agree on one thing in their personal lives: the need for a high wall around their personal homes. Most likely there’s armed security as well. Hillary Clinton’s home (left) in Chappaqua, New York, is pretty standard, with few exceptions. Rightly so.
When President Trump addresses the nation tonight at 7 PM Mountain Time he might not be ready yet to agree completely in public with journalist Nick Adams that “It’s time: Trump should declare a national emergency, build the border wall, activate the military police and arrest the deep state traitors.” But Trump certainly knows that the wall is relatively cheap and that the National Guard already has national defense as its primary mission.
Even the European Union and nation states throughout history have been funding defensive walls for the same obvious reason: they work. They save poor people from suffering and death by sending a clear message about forced trespassing.
Besides, if the American military continues to keep the peace worldwide, then advising foreign governments about wall-building will be central. Remember how US Forces in Iraq came up short when fighting stopped and the need to restore infrastructure loomed large? Walls are cheap infrastructure–but must be supplemented with the highest electronic surveillance technology available. Open borders invite terrorist attacks and promote domestic disunity.
