To Rapid City, South Dakota.
Trailers loaded with beautiful, big horned Longhorn cattle began arriving yesterday… from far away places. One from Oklahoma, another from Colorado, still others from as far away as Oregon and Texas. Longhorn Lovers are driving 15-20 hours to buy, sell and show these amazing animals.
Their destination: The Central State Fair in Rapid City, SD. It will be a sight to behold! The public is invited. Over 150,000 people are expected to attend the fair.
Friday, Aug. 16 at 4:00 pm is the Regional Horn Measurement, followed by the Top Hand Invitational Longhorn Sale at 10:00 am on Saturday, Aug 17 and the 4th Annual World Qualifying Longhorn Show at 10:00 am on Sunday, Aug 18.
Well known Longhorn auctioneer, Joel Lemley is traveling from Texas to conduct the sale. Internet bidding and live broadcast of the sale for those unable to attend will be provided by Hired Hand Live, allowing people from all across the country to participate. Justin Rombeck from Kansas-based Longhorn Opportunities will provide sale day commentary on each animal, their pedigrees and performance history.
The sale is sponsored by Scot & Jodie O’Bryan and Gordon & Connie Howie, enthusiastic Longhorn producers from Western South Dakota. The Horn Measurement and World Show are sponsored by the Great Plains Texas Longhorn Association.
Some people breed these gentle cattle for their horn and color. Others focus on the lean and tasty beef. Everyone LOVES these animals.
The pens are set up on the green grass among the shade trees on the grounds of the Central States Fair. They are filling up quickly. Bring your camera.
Friends, this will be FUN!!!
