Bishop Lorenzo Kelly was my friend.
Not just … A friend… the best friend of my lifetime.
Certainly, he was my Pastor, but our friendship impacted my life in ways I can’t express. I consider myself highly privileged to have been his friend.
Today, I find myself missing him. Again. Still. His deep love of God was inspirational. His humanity further endeared him to me. He tolerated my version of humor and my lifestyle which was so very different from his. Some might have considered us unlikely friends, but our shared commitment to Christ was the foundation from which we enjoyed our differences as well as our commonality.
His absence in my life has left a hole that simply will not be filled in this lifetime. Just another breakfast or short road trip… Not in this life, but in the life to come, we will have a wonderful reunion. Until then, I’ll settle for the fond memories.
And thank God that he was… and remains… a part of my life.
