South Dakota is a two-party state. Not the Republicans and Democrats, but the liberals and conservatives. All blended into the Grand Old Party.
In the 2016 election, Wyoming gave President Trump the highest percentage of victory in America. South Dakota was not far behind, remarkable considering the confused loyalties of some top GOP leaders back then. With the over-achieving performance of Trump since then, the liberal coalitions within the GOP have weakened. The Democrats and Republicans have polarized along with the rest of America, geographically divided as in the Civil War.
Writing in the American Thinker, one writer has summed up the breathtaking historical significance of the upcoming campaign, not just for the presidency but the monumental values and heritage foundations at stake:
“Only one man, and one amazing phenomenon, stands now athwart the destruction of the American experiment. President Donald John Trump and the millions of us who stand behind him. Like him or hate him, he is the bulwark against socialism, communism, and the utterly destructive forces of the left. He is the domino that refuses to fall. His re-election is the only thing that will keep this country from going over the edge.”
Democrats may literally own most television and print media, as they do most of the university system, but Republicans have staked out their Alamo in the Internet. While Trump has brilliantly realized the potential of Twitter to reach the American people directly, YouTube allows free videos to get out extended messages, such as The Best Is Yet To Come – Trump 2020. America’s greatness will parallel its sense of optimism.
