Several leading Republican donors and fundraisers have been urging the popular Republican Governor Chris Christie to reconsider his decision not to run and to enter the GOP primary.
These Christie supporters note that significant GOP support has remained on the sidelines of the primary fight. Many leading fundraisers have yet to commit to any current primary contender, including frontrunners Rick Perry and Mitt Romney.
The draft Christie movement culminated in a hush-hush powwow held in the past week with Christie and several notable Republican billionaires.
Why?
Apparently the “RINO” Republican Party leadership is panicking. They see their RINO candidate, Mitt Romney, failing to gain significant traction. They see their backup RINO, Rick Perry, fading quickly.
They watched in horror as Herman Cain won the straw vote in Florida. They fear that a Tea Party supported candidate, such as Herman Cain, or another true conservative, announced or unannounced, might surge to the lead.
So they have hatched Alternate #2-Governor Chris Christie.
Governor Christie is a Northeastern Republican. Score him a RINO too.
I have observed the weakness of the RINO field as well. My suggestion would be to listen to the grassroots not the RINO Republican leadership. If we are to encourage another entrant in the field, let’s visit with Jim DeMint or Sarah Palin.
Jim, Sarah. Are you listening?
