Occupy Wall Street-The Entitlement Mindset

The common thread running through all the signs and rhetoric of Occupy Wall Street and its clones is entitlements. The fuel of the movement is the entitlement mindset.

Here’s just some of the things Occupy Wall Streeters want according to their “99 Percent Declaration”:

• Much higher taxes on the wealthy;
• Government to provide health care for all Americans;
• Student loan debt relief;
• Mortgage debt relief and for all underwater and foreclosed mortgages to be bought and refinanced at interest rates of less than one percent;
• An immediate one year freeze on all foreclosures.

Basically, what the protesters are demanding is a much larger federal government that takes from the wealthy and that gives lots of stuff to them for free.

An increasing number of Americans believe that things such as housing, college education and health care are “rights” that the government should be required to provide for them.

This is especially true among our young people. We have trained them to have an “entitlement mindset”, and we have not trained them to work hard for what they want out of life.

Many of these young people are products of broken homes devoid of discipline and lacking parental role models. The educational system, overwhelmingly dominated by progressive liberal teachers and administrators, have advanced the Marxist socialist feel-good philosophies that lead to a lack of initiative, laziness and dependence on the government-the entitlement mentality.

They are morally bankrupt as a result of the banning of religion or religious training from our schools.

God is shunned but Steve Jobs is revered.

They are taught that there is a “separation of church and state,” which is a total fabrication of the progressive liberal left. But they are somehow entitled to have computers and smart phones.

So it is it any wonder that they feel entitled to demand the list above and more?

Is it surprising that they apparently feel entitled to congregate on private property (Zucotti Park), defecate, fornicate and foul the streets?
